Brady…Sick and Hallucinating

My poor baby woke up in the middle of the night the other night several times. He first woke up to his shivering and was very upset about it. He didn’t have a fever…so I got him warmed up, calmed down, and back to bed. He woke up again several times thru the night (this time with a fever) and each time was comical in nature and required reassurance, a drink and tucking him back in. Once, I found him in the hallway shutting his bedroom door claiming there was someone in his room. He then opened the door to show me all the animals in his room. We got some juice, shooed the animals away, and back to sleep he went. Again, he yelled for me and I found him in the living room commenting on all the animals running across the room and telling me that a Pig was in his bed again. Another time, he commented about the bubbles floating around his room.

After a few times, I relinquished all future wakings to hubby! Chris said that he commented on the animals again, but pointed out that they were all gone. We took him to the doctor sure that he had an ear infection...nope, Brady has strep throat. There goes our "free" pass back to daycare. He spent the rest of the day playing with Chris and not really sure why Chris was trying to be protective of him, because he was FINE. I wish I felt that good when I am sick...instead I get to suffer from the seasonal crud and get harrassed about swine flu!

After 24 hours on antibiotics, Brady is feeling great and no more hallucinations!

Ride the Pony...Neigh

On this beautiful Sunday, we decided to take a break from the household chores and take the boys to a Spring Fair at Holly's House. Upon arrival, the boys would not participate in the games of fishing, ring toss, etc. Oh boy...this was a waste! However, Connor decided that he wanted to ride the pony. I really thought we would stand in line and then he would chicken out...but he actually did it. Check out Mr. Connor! Brady, however, did chicken out and even got a little freaked out by one of the horses that got TOO close.

Fun day had by all...

This Saturday was planned several weeks ago before we even knew what a beautiful day it was going to be. I had the opportunity to participate in an all day scrapbooking session with a friend for the Christian Life Center, which I looked at as the perfect opportunity to give myself a "kick in the rear" to get some of my pictures put together. I mean, Connor is 4 1/2 now...and I am 4 1/2 years behind. It was a good day for me.

To ensure that I would get this opportunity for a "ME" day again, I arranged for daddy to have a me day also (which really was just a peaceful day to get things done). The boys had a fun day planned with grandparents and were not disappointed. They started out the day with Mimi & Papa, where they started out their morning going on a trail ride through Wesselman Woods and visiting the nature preserve. They then went to McD's (of course) and requested a picnic lunch. They had a picnic lunch downtown and then played at Kids Kingdom.

Time for the switchoff...they then proceeded to Gma Darla's for an afternoon of outside fun with the cousins, Papa, and Gma. They played rough and had a blast. Papa even let them "build" stuff with a hammer and nail (Thanks Dad). They were filthy when we picked them up, not to mention a few bloody noses and allergy reactions to go along with it. It wouldn't be a fun day without those things! The boys were conked out by time Chris got home and would not wake up for anything. You should have seen us trying to give two SLEEPING boys baths...strip, dunk, dryoff, and then they wake up.

Mommy's a Girl...and yes, she has b**bs

At the theatre last night for Connor's School Play, Brady was moving from lap to lap. At one point, he was on mommy's lap trying to get comfortable. He leaned back and was not happy...he turned around investigating what was preventing him from being comfortable.

B: What is in your shirt mommy? I can't lean back.

M: Nothing is in my shirt Brady.

B: Yes, there is something in your shirt. Pat Pat...let me look. Oh, it's your B**BS!

Yes, Mommy does have those, have always had those, and they have always been there when you are sitting on my lap. I looked over at Mimi who was cracking up...not sure who else nearby heard the exchange.

Hippo Stage Fright..

The "big" night finally arrived...the Montessori School Play, Food Chain. The kids and adults all worked very hard for over two months preparing everyone for the big night. I was able to attend the Dress Rehearsal the night before and see all the performances and get a video of Connor's Hippo Song. He led the group out proudly, but then froze up during the entire performance. When I picked him up from Dress Rehearsal, he said he didn't see me and was not going to perform (for lack of an audience). Aunt Julie agrees...no sense in performing in vain! He said he would perform for all his grandparents the night of the "real" thing.

So, we continued to remind Connor that he would all be watching him and looking forward to seeing his performance. He even made a deal with Daddy that if he performed, would daddy videotape another one of the performances, the Panthers (which was the other 1/2 of his class). His song came on...I think I saw him peak around the curtain and then that was it. He didn't come out...he hid behind the curtain with another classmate while the rest of the group performed the hippo song. I felt so sad for him...did we play it up to much, did the audience scare him, was he staying behind to support his friend?

Brady quickly noticed...where's my Connor? After the show, Connor said he got scared of all the clapping and laughing. We didn't say much to him about it...and we didn't have to. Brady took care of it...asking him (all the way home) where he was, why he was hiding, why he didn't sing, wanting to know if he was scared of the Alligator.

Connor had a lot of fun preparing for the big night...but performing in front of over 500 people was just TOO much for our 4 year-old. It was an enjoyable night nonetheless.

While Brady was waiting patiently for Connor's School Performance to start, he was hamming it up with Mimi and laughing hysterically with Aunt Julie. His smile (and his laugh) is so contagious!

Hippo Dress Rehearsal...

If the dress rehearsal is any indication...this should be an interesting performance on Friday evening. Connor is on the far right.... P.S. You won't need to watch the whole video to get an idea of what I am talking about.

Happy Birthday Grant!

Our good friend, Grant, celebrated his 2nd birthday with a cookout/birthday party on what turned out to be a great night for a cookout. The kids had a lot of fun playing outside and in the sandbox, the company was good, and Grant had an awesome Reese Pieces Cake. Happy Birthday Grant!

Connor's Upcoming Performance

Connor will be a Hippo in his preschool's Spring 2009 School Musical. They have been practicing at school for months and we have the CD in our car...I think he could do the whole performance, not just the Hippo song. Details of his performance to come later....

Future Soccer Star...Maybe

I won a gift certificate for two soccer lessons with Kinderkicks at the Montessori auction, so I thought it was a good time to try out sports with Brady (We have been a little hesitant to try the team sports for Brady because of the unsuccessful attempts with Connor). I'm glad we did. Today was Brady's 2nd soccer lesson with Kinderkicks and he did great! Last week, the 1st lesson was held inside due to weather and he was a little hesitant in the beginning. I thought he was being Connor Jr. right off the bat with his head glued to the shoulder. After a brief warm-up period and some brotherly assistance from Connor, he quickly joined in the fun with the other kids. By the end, he was wanting to tell the teacher everything.

Tonight, the lesson was outside at the soccer field and what a beautiful evening for it. Brady was very focused on listening to what the teacher had to say and other than a little reservations during stretching, he participated the entire time. In addition to getting the kids to kick the ball (rather than using hands), Ms. Janet also introduced counting, identification of colors, matching of colors, and learning left from right during the lesson. By the way, Brady showed that he knew these things and just needs practice on the Soccer basics. At the end of class, Brady told Ms. Janet that he would see her next week and she said he did great. Future soccer star...maybe! Since he did so great, I think we will continue going for a little bit. Plus, mommy enjoyed the one-on-one time she was able to spend with Brady at the field and talking about the evening on the way home.

Preparing for Easter...

This year was the first year we attempted dying easter eggs as a family event. Connor said that the Easter Bunny likes easter eggs, so we needed to make sure we had some for when the Easter Bunny delivers the goodies on Easter day. We set the boys up with 2 colors each and gave them a few eggs each to decorate with crayon and then dye. Of course, Connor used a yellow crayon for the yellow dye and Brady used a blue crayon for the blue dye, so the design was a little hard to see when complete. They did very well though in handling the eggs and waiting patiently for the color to get dark.

Classmate Birthday Parties

The last two weekends have included birthday parties for Connor's friends from school. The first one was at Acros last Saturday evening and just Connor and mommy went. Connor had a blast jumping in the pit over and over again and swinging on the rope (even though he would always let go immediately). The second one was at Pump It Up and the entire family was invited. Pump It Up was a blast also especially since the big kids, aka adults, could also play. I will definitely have to consider one of these places for one of the boy's birthday parties, as it was a blast and the kids are worn out afterwards. As everyone knows, my boys don't normally nap, but they napped for over 2 hours the afternoon after the party.
